Praveen Kumar: expected to return from elbow problem in second ODI

India seamer Praveen Kumar has been ruled out of the first one-day international against West Indies in Cuttack on Tuesday.

Kumar has been battling a recurring elbow problem for some time and was forced to miss India's World Cup triumph earlier in the year.

He is expected to be fit for the second game of the five-match series, in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

"Praveen Kumar has a niggle so he is not available for the first ODI," said India captain Virender Sehwag, who is standing in while regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni takes a rest for the whole series.

"We expect him to join the squad tomorrow (Tuesday) and be fit for the second match."

Kumar's absence means the inexperienced trio of R Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron are India's seam-bowling options for the series opener.

West Indies, meanwhile, have all-rounder Kieron Pollard to bolster their middle-order for the limited-overs matches.

Pollard, batsman Jason Mohammed and off-spinner Sunil Narine are the other new faces in the squad as the tourists look to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat in the Test series.

West Indies did show improvement in the drawn third Test, India finishing on 242-9 with the scores level on the final day in Mumbai last Saturday.
