Jeetan Patel: signed up for another spell with Warwickshire in 2012

Warwickshire have signed New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel as their overseas player for the whole of the 2012 season.

Patel featured for the Bears in last season's Friends Life t20 and stayed on to play three games in the LV County Championship - taking 17 wickets - because of an injury to Ant Botha and the late arrival of Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

"It's fantastic to have Jeetan returning to the club for the full 2012 season, and having such an experienced high-quality spinner is the perfect addition to complement this talented squad," Warwickshire director of cricket Ashley Giles told the county's official website.

Ashley Giles Quotes of the week

"It was a big blow to the team when we lost Ant Botha to injury last season, which unfortunately led to his premature retirement. But signing Jeetan is a great boost for everyone and we look forward to welcoming him back to Edgbaston in 2012."

Excited

Patel, who has taken 40 wickets in 13 Tests for New Zealand, is delighted to be returning to Edgbaston.

"Warwickshire is a great club and I've enjoyed my cricket tremendously in the two spells that I've had at Edgbaston," he said.

"The new pavilion has created a fantastic stadium to be based at, and we've got a very good squad, which is capable of challenging for honours in all competitions.

"Finishing as runner-up in last year's County Championship was a great achievement by this team, and I'm looking forward to joining the guys again next season and doing all that I can to make it another good season for the club."

The deal remains subject to Home Office clearance.
