Northamptonshire opening batsman Stephen Peters and seam bowler Lee Daggett have signed contract extensions which will keep them at Wantage Road until the end of the 2013 season.

Peters is one of the most consistent performers on the county circuit and continued his impressive form with the bat last season, scoring 864 runs in the LV= County Championship at an average of 43.2, top scoring with 222 against Glamorgan in August.

Peters, speaking after agreeing a new deal, said: "I'm delighted to have extended my contract with Northants. Although we narrowly missed out on promotion, we have consistently been challenging for promotion over the past three seasons and it's only a matter of time before we take that extra step.

"I've really enjoyed my last six seasons at the club, and with the exciting and refreshing development of the younger players here, I can't wait to continue and help the club progress in the next couple of years."

Daggett enjoyed his most productive season for Northants since arriving three years ago from Warwickshire, taking 41 wickets in 2011 at an average of 35 in the County Championship, in his role as first change bowler.

Head coach David Capel said of the pair: "I view Stephen as an integral and senior part of the team, and he has performed well for the club over the past few years. He adds true quality to our top order batting and I am very pleased he has signed this extension.

"Lee performed well for us, especially in the first part of the 2011 season. He was well suited to the first change role in the County Championship, coming in behind Jack Brooks and Chaminda Vaas, and he played a very valuable role in the team.

"In Brooks, Vaas, Hall and Daggett, along with some other young seamers, like David Willey, coming through, I like the look of the combinations we can put together in the seam department."
