Five wickets from Fidel Edwards and a century from namesake Kirk put West Indies in control of the second Test against Bangladesh.

Kirk Edwards scored 121 as the tourists were bowled out for 355 shortly after lunch on day two in Mirpur.

Fidel Edwards then had the hosts reeling on 59-5, before Shakib Al Hasan, who had earlier claimed five wickets, led the recovery with 73 as the hosts closed 151 runs behind on 204-7.

Fidel Edwards first removed Tamim Iqbal, who had hit three boundaries off the previous Kemar Roach over, thanks to a fine short-leg catch from Darren Bravo, who pouched an easier chance two overs later in the same position to dismiss Shahriar Nafees.

Raqibul Hasan was lbw in the paceman's next over, followed next ball by Mushfiqur Rahim, caught by Shivnarine Chanderpaul at slip.

Imrul Kayes, who had seemed oblivious to the carnage at the other end in scoring 29 off 26 balls including a pulled six off Roach, was next to go, clipping the ball straight to Kraigg Brathwaite at square leg.

Shakib hit successive fours off Edwards, one off an edge and the other a straight drive, but settled in to see his side through to tea without further damage.

Shakib found the boundary again off the first delivery after tea, and kept up a run rate of better than a run a ball as he passed 50.

He hammered three boundaries off one Darren Sammy over but was bowled by Devendra Bishoo having put on 84 with Naeem Islam.

That would have represented a good evening for Bangladesh but Naeem was farcically run out for 45.

Fidel Edwards finished the day with figures of 5-58.

Earlier, Kirk Edwards advanced to three figures, but had a stroke of luck on the way when he was dropped by Mushfiqur Rahim on 90.

He then cracked two quick fours to move to within touching distance of his hundred, and brought it up off 234 balls with a straight drive.

At the other end, Marlon Samuels had progressed to 48 without any real trouble, but he was uprooted in the 113th over, when Nasir Hossain took a stunning catch off his own bowling to remove him.

The runs then dried up short of a Kirk Edwards six and, with the pressure telling, Carlton Baugh tried to cut Shakib but only found the hands of Kayes and departed for six. Sammy then trod on his own stumps.

Kirk Edwards was out shortly after lunch, trapped lbw by Shakib, who then removed Fidel Edwards to claim figures of 5-63 and end the West Indies innings.
