Cup loss leaves Bentley broken

Image: Bentley: Cannot find fault with team

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley was deflated after his side went out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on penalties to Preston.

Brian McLean and Juvhel Tsoumou put the Lilywhites 2-0 up at half-time but Phil Jevons and Kevin Ellison scored late on to force shoot-out, which North End won 7-6 after Lewis Alessandra's miss. Bentley said: "One of the first lessons I was taught was that I shouldn't get too high when we win and too low when we lose but I am finding that difficult at the moment. "The lads were absolutely terrific and I can't fault them. I was really disappointed again with the goals we conceded, especially with one from a set-piece again and we gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb. "But to come back like we did and play the football we did was fantastic. We gave an in form League One club a real shock and when we had the advantage in the penalty shoot-out I really thought we were going to win it. "It wasn't to be but we can't be too disappointed. We have to take the positives from the game and show the same spirit in the league against Wimbledon this weekend."
