England international Joe Denly has joined Middlesex on a two-year contract after deciding to end his 12-year association with Kent.

Opening batsman Denly, 25, played nine ODIs and five T20Is in 2009 but fell off the selectors' radar after a poor season the following year.

He returned to form in 2011 with 1,024 championship runs in a struggling Kent team that finished second bottom of Division Two.

"I'm committed to becoming the best player I can possibly be and firmly believe that the environment at Middlesex will help me achieve that and one day resurrect my prospects at international level."
Joe Denly Quotes of the week

"A large part of me is very sad to be leaving Kent," Denly, who was out of contract, told Middlesex's official website.

"As a local lad who's come through the system I expected to play my whole career here. This is an important stage of my career, however, and I'm really excited about the move to Middlesex, who are a club on the up as shown by their recent promotion to division one of the championship.

"I'm committed to becoming the best player I can possibly be and firmly believe that the environment at Middlesex will help me achieve that and one day resurrect my prospects at international level. I'd like to thank everyone at Kent, particularly my captain Rob Key, for the support I've received over the last eight years."

Denly will be plying his trade in Division One next season after Middlesex earned promotion to the top-flight as champions of the lower tier.

"Joe Denly is a major addition to our squad," said Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington.

"He can play all three formats of the game and is a quality player. We are delighted to have captured his signature."
