Wicketkeeper succeeds Shakib as Bangladesh skipper

Bangladesh have named wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim as their new captain for the home series against West Indies and Pakistan. Rahim, 23, takes over from Shakib Al Hasan, who was sacked earlier in September after the Tigers' unsuccessful tour of Zimbabwe. "Rahim will captain the national team for Tests and limited-over matches for the home series against the West Indies and Pakistan," Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Rabeed Imam told AFP. "The West Indies will tour from October and Pakistan from the last week of November." All-rounder Mahmudullah, meanwhile, has succeeded Tamim Iqbal as vice-captain. Tamim also lost his leadership position after Bangladesh lost the one-off Test and one-day series in Zimbabwe. Rahim's first assignment in charge will be the T20 international against West Indies in Dhaka on October 11, which is followed by three ODIs and two Tests with the same opponents.
