Nottinghamshire seamer Charlie Shreck is to join Kent at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has been released from the final year of his contract to make the switch south, meaning next week's LV County Championship clash with Sussex will mark the end of his eight-year spell at Trent Bridge.

He has made 82 first-class appearances in that time, taking 290 wickets, and was Nottinghamshire's player of the year in 2006 and 2008.

However, he has been restricted to nine appearances in this season's championship and the signing of Leicestershire's Harry Gurney looked likely to further limit his opportunities next term.

The Cornishman, who played one game on loan for Kent in April before being recalled by Nottinghamshire, said: "No-one enjoys turning up at the ground not being sure of a place in the side and my only motivation for leaving is to find regular first-team cricket, because I have loved every minute of my time here.

Charlie Shreck Quotes of the week

"Trent Bridge is an amazing place and Nottinghamshire gave me the opportunity to play first-class cricket after a very late start, and I will always be grateful for that."

Director of cricket Mick Newell added: "Charlie is very highly thought of here and he has set an excellent example to our younger players during his time at Trent Bridge.

"He has foregone a benefit year to make this move and that shows his desire to play regular first-team cricket, which we couldn't guarantee given the depth we have in our squad.

"I can't speak highly enough of the contribution that he has made here and there is no doubt that he will make a difference at his new club."
