Bangladesh avoided a tour whitewash with a much-needed win over Zimbabwe in the fourth of their five-match ODI series on Friday.

After slumping to 3-0 down in the series, the tourists finally found their feet, cruising to a six-wicket victory with 80 balls to spare after bowling out the home side for 199.

Bangladesh, who also lost the only Test of the tour, put their hosts in to bat after winning the toss at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

Things may have been worse for Zimbabwe were it not for skipper Brendan Taylor who struck his fourth ODI century, striking a six and seven fours on his way to 106.

Taylor put on 94 runs for the fifth wicket with Elton Chigumbura (31) after Zimbabwe had slipped to 89-4 in the 22nd over.

But the latter was caught by Nasir Hossain off the bowling of Rubel Hossain, who finished with figures of 4-31, and Taylor fell two balls later in a collapse that saw the hosts lose five wickets in 12 balls.

Damage

Bangladesh openers Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal exploded out of the blocks in reply, blasting 45 runs off the first four overs.

Kayes was removed on 24 by Chris Mpofu and Junaid Siddique made 14 before he was dismissed by Prosper Utseya.

But Tamim went on to pass 3,000 international runs on his way to 61 taking Bangladesh to 122-3 at the fall of his wicket in the 21st over.

Mushfiqur Rahim followed three overs later after adding 16 but the damage had already been done.

And skipper Shakib Al Hasan (39 not out) together with Shivagoto Hom (35 not out) took the tourists home in a 74-run fifth-wicket partnership.
