Kumar: had taken 15 wickets for the tourists in three Tests against England
India have announced that Praveen Kumar was not fit to play in the fourth Test against England because of an ankle injury.
The seamer was thought to have been ruled out for the final match of the series after suffering bruising on his right thumb while batting during the tourists' innings defeat at Edgbaston in the third Test.
However, a statement from the India team has said that a problem in his right ankle was actually the reason why the 24-year-old was sidelined.
"Praveen Kumar was suffering from pain in his left ankle from an injury sustained while bowling in the third Test match between England and India at Edgbaston," the statement read.
"Treatment was administered to him, and he has been responding well to treatment.
"However, there are still some residual symptoms in his ankle - due to which he was ruled out of the fourth Test between England and India at The Oval."
Kumar's bowling had been one of the very few positives for India during the Test leg of the tour, as he claimed 15 wickets at a cost of 29.53.
