Australia prop Benn Robinson has ruled himself out of the World Cup after opting to undergo knee surgery.

The 42-Test veteran was always struggling to make the New Zealand showpiece after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament before the Australia-Samoa Test in Sydney in July.

And, in a post on his Twitter page, Robinson confirmed: "(I'm) heading in for surgery tomorrow!! Pushed really hard to make it but knee just isn't right!! Very disheartening!!"

Australia will name their 30-man squad for this year's World Cup on Thursday.
