Pace bowler James Anderson insists England will be taking nothing for granted when the third Test gets under way on Wednesday.

"It's their number one spot that they are defending so they have got a lot to play for."
James Anderson Quotes of the week

England resume their so far one-sided Test series with India at Edgbaston with the tourists smarting from back-to-back defeats and a flurry of injuries to key players.

It was confirmed over the weekend that left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan will play no further part in the series and will require ankle surgery, therefore joining Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh on a plane home from England.

But, with India's No.1 ranking on the line in Birmingham, Anderson, while admitting Zaheer's absence is a boost for England, believes India will come out fighting on day one.

Strength

He told Sky Sports: "It will be a big loss, he's (Zaheer's) the leader of their attack, he's such a skilful bowler, especially in English conditions - he always bowls well here.

"It is a big loss for them but we can't get carried away with one individual going home because they've got strength in depth and we know that whoever replaces him (RP Singh) will have quality and we've got to look to get the better of him.

"They won't want to lose the series and if they've got any chance of staying in the series they know they have got to win this week.

"We know they are going to come hard at us and we've got to try and match that.

"It's their number one spot that they are defending so they have got a lot to play for."
