Seamer excited about the future at the County Ground

Tim Groenewald has extended his contract with Derbyshire in a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of 2014.

The seamer joined Derbyshire from Warwickshire ahead of the 2009 season and has taken 104 first-class wickets in 30 first-class matches at an average of 29.50 for the county, leading to interest from some of Derbyshire's rivals.

However, the club have now signed the 27-year-old to a new three-year contract after he elected to stay at the County Ground.

"Tim has been a real leader for us with the ball this season and I'm delighted he will be with us for another three years," said Derbyshire coach Karl Krikken.

Consistent

"To become a consistent performer with the ball in all forms of the game is an excellent achievement and it makes Tim a valuable commodity for us going forward."

Groenewald is on course for a 50-wicket campaign, having taken 32 scalps in eight Championship matches so far this season.

"I have really enjoyed playing my cricket for Derbyshire and I'm delighted to be here for another three years," he said.

"There are a lot of talented young cricketers at the club and I'm excited about playing alongside them and working towards a successful future."
