Wallabies wary of Steyn

Aussie skipper urges discipline against Springboks

Australia captain Rocky Elsom is keenly alert to the danger Springbok fly-half Morne Steyn will pose in Saturday's Tri-Nations opener against South Africa. Heavy rain has been falling in Sydney this week and, with more expected at the weekend Elsom is well aware that discipline will play a crucial role in the outcome of the clash. Steyn has amassed a massive 172 points in just two Tri-Nations competitions and Elsom knows that opposite number John Smit will be instructing his sharpshooter to inflict maximum damage whenever Australia infringe within range. "When you get into a game that's potentially a little bit bogged down points become a lot more valuable," Elsom said. "And with a bloke like him on the pitch, the discipline's got to be right up there. "We've spoken about that as a group but I guess the proof will be in the performance tomorrow." Smit knows too that, with so much inexperience in his side and the weather likely to hamper both sides' ability to shift the ball wide, Steyn's deadly boot could prove a key factor in Sydney. "His kicks are really crucial goals for us in the last couple of seasons," said the Springbok skipper. "So I'm pretty sure the Wallabies will realise he's a pretty big threat there when it comes to three-pointers. "Discipline on both sides will be crucial. But when there's kicks that need to go over, I'm pretty glad we've got Morne."
