The Chiefs are poised to replace Bath-bound Stephen Donald with Hurricanes fly-half Aaron Cruden.

The 22-year-old is currently in talks with the Waikato franchise about teaming up with his Manawatu and New Zealand U20 mentor Dave Rennie, who replaces Ian Foster as head coach.

Chiefs CEO Gary Dawson told the Waikato Times: "We've just got some work around finalising the contract to get completed to make it 100 per cent.

"We're just working through that process at the moment."

Cruden has been capped six times by the All Blacks, but he was overlooked for this year's Tri-Nations squad after a disappointing season for the Hurricanes.
