Scorchers coach Arthur hails 35-year-old as a "brilliant leader"

Former England twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood will play for the Perth Scorchers in the inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League. The Durham all-rounder retired from Test cricket after the Ashes win in Australia in January but will now head back Down Under this winter to turn out for the Scorchers. Collingwood was not selected in either England's twenty20 or one-day squads to face Sri Lanka on home soil this summer. The 35-year-old is the second overseas signing to be announced by Perth, who are coached by Mickey Arthur, after the state side had already confirmed the capture of South African opener Herschelle Gibbs.

Brilliant leader

"Paul is a brilliant leader of men who helped mould his country's T20 side into an exciting and ruthless combination, which culminated in their triumph over Australia in the final of last year's World T20 in Barbados," said Arthur. "Being the first skipper to lead England to victory at an ICC men's event was a massive feather in his cap. "Paul is a gutsy and determined batsman who can lift the scoring rate with his attacking stroke play, he is a proven wicket-taker with the ball and is first class in the field. "I am thrilled to welcome him as our second overseas signing."
