West Indies have dropped experienced batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan for the final Test against India.

Sarwan, an 87-Test veteran, has a top score of 23 in his last eight innings and is replaced in an otherwise unchanged 13-man squad by rookie Leeward Islands opener Kieran Powell.

Powell, 21, boasts a first-class average of 38.91 with one century. He played two one-day internationals in 2009 but has not featured at international level since.

"Ramnaresh is having a difficult time and it is best for him to make way and allow a player in better form to contribute to the team totals," said West Indies chairman of selectors Clyde Butts.

"We have no doubt about Ramnaresh's class as a batsman, he has proven himself countless times in the past and we are certain that he will return stronger in the near future."

Opportunity

On the selection of Powell, Butts added: "Kieran is young but has been on the first-class circuit for some time and is a former Windies Under-19 World Cup player.

"He did well for the West Indies A and scored an impressive hundred against England Lions in the WICB regional four-day tournament but got injured subsequently.

"We believe he has bright future and this is an excellent opportunity for him to show his worth on the international stage."

West Indies trail India 1-0 heading into the series finale at Windsor Park, which starts on July 6 and is the inaugural Test to be staged at the Roseau, Dominica venue.

West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh (wkt), Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Kirk Edwards, Kieran Powell, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons
