Leicestershire claimed their first home Friends Life t20 win for two years with a 19-run victory over Worcestershire at Grace Road on Saturday.

After setting a victory target of 152, the hosts produced a superb performance in the field to restrict the Royals to 132-7 at the end of their 20 overs.

In doing so the Foxes gave their hopes of a place in the quarter-finals a considerable boost as they cemented second place in the North group.

Leicestershire posted 151-8 from their 20 overs after being put in to bat by the visitors, but slumped to 58-5 in the eighth over.

Josh Cobb made a good start, racing to 30 off 16 balls before he sliced a catch to third man off the bowling of Gareth Andrew.

But his dismissal brought about a flurry of wickets for the Royals as the hosts struggled to cope with the spin of Saeed Ajmal and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Superb

But veteran Paul Nixon led a recovery for his side, top scoring with 44, including a sixth-wicket stand of 54 in nine overs with Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.

The innings stuttered again after Nixon was stumped off Ajmal and Andrew had Razzaq caught for 20 to leave the hosts on 112-6.

But skipper Matthew Hoggard struck a six and a four off the last two deliveries to take the total to 151-8.

Worcestershire were unable to get going in their reply thanks to a superb bowling display from Razzaq and Harry Gurney and slumped to 24-2 in their six overs of powerplay

Razzaq finished with figures of 2-16 in his four overs and left-arm spinner Claude Henderson took 2-29.

James Cameron top scored with 36, Moeen Ali made 32 and Mitchell 23, but the visitors were simply unable to stay with the run-rate.

And with 30 required from the final over there was no way back for the Royals.
