Solomons: Saints are superb

Former Northampton director of rugby Alan Solomons believes the Saints can be crowned kings of Europe on Saturday.

Former boss tipping Northampton for success

Former Northampton director of rugby Alan Solomons believes the Saints can be crowned kings of Europe on Saturday. Northampton take on Leinster at the Millennium Stadium, live on Sky Sports HD1 & 3D, in a mouth-watering finale to this season's Heineken Cup. The match will see a host of the world's top players going head-to-head - and Solomons feels Northampton just have the edge. Southern Kings and Eastern Province Kings boss Solomons, who also worked with Ulster, the Stormers, Barbarians Western Province and South Africa, told skysports.com: "I think Jim Mallinder is doing a superb job at Northampton. "I watched them against Ulster. They just look a really good side and I think they will win." With a number of internationals in their ranks, Saints are almost spoilt for choice. However it is the uncapped 29-year-old Roger Wilson who has really impressed Solomons. "Dorian West is doing great work with the forwards and in Roger Wilson they have a great No.8," said Solomons, who had a disappointing spell in charge at Franklin's Gardens in 2004. "I worked with him at Ulster and how he hasn't played for Ireland I will never know as he is a massively underrated. "In the backs they have Ben Foden, who is a terrific player, and the England winger Chris Ashton. They are a good side with threats all over."
