Samoan back-row joins La Rochelle on two-year deal

Alfie To'oala has become the latest player to leave relegated Premiership side Leeds Carnegie. To'oala will ply his trade in France next season after La Rochelle confirmed on Tuesday they had signed the back-row forward. The Samoa international has joined the Top 14 outfit, who finished 13th this season, on a two-year deal. A late call-up to the Samoa squad for the 2007 World Cup in France, To'oala joined Leeds from Bristol after the West Counrty club was relegated in 2009. He follows England hooker Steve Thompson, coach Neil Back and young second row James Craig out of Headingley, as the club await their almost inevitable fate. Leeds' drop to the Championship will be confirmed on Wednesday night at Sixways if Worcester are crowned Championship winners. The Warriors, who are the only Championship club that meets minimum Premiership entry criteria, take on Cornish Pirates in the second-leg of the Championship final. And, with a home tie plus a nine-point advantage after beating the Pirates away, it looks unlikely that they will allow their chance of top flight rugby to slip.
