India opener still troubled by shoulder problem

Virender Sehwag will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League season with a shoulder injury. The Delhi Daredevils captain, who is the leading run scorer in the competition with 424 in 11 matches, requires an operation. "We will miss Virender Sehwag as he has been the pillar for Daredevils," said franchise owner PB Vanchi in a statement. "But we also know how important it is for Sehwag to get the surgery done and be fit for future matches. "We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will soon be back in action for both Daredevils and India."

The 32-year-old has been troubled by the problem for some time and was only declared fit for the recent World Cup, which India went on to win, after having extensive rehabilitation. He is expected to undergo surgery in London in the coming days and then faces a recovery period of between six and eight weeks. India head off on a tour West Indies in early June and Sehwag is unlikely to recover in time to make the trip - while he must also be considered a doubt to make the tour of England, which starts in mid-July. Australian all-rounder James Hopes will lead the Daredevils, who are already out of play-off contention, in their final three matches.
