Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayudu hit half-centuries as Mumbai Indians saw off Bangalore Royal Challengers by nine wickets.

Set a target of 141 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Mumbai opener Davy Jacobs gave the run chase a flying start with 22 off 16 balls before he was bowled by Dirk Nannes in the fifth over.

But that was the Royal Challengers' only moment of success as Tendulkar was joined by Rayudu in an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 110.

Tendulkar sealed victory with a boundary from the third ball of the penultimate over to spare to finish on 55 not out from 46 balls, while Rayudu was unbeaten on 62 off 50.

The Royal Challengers had earlier been restricted to a modest total by some disciplined bowling, particularly from Munaf Patel whose three overs cost only 10 runs.

Patel's new-ball partner Lasith Malinga (2-32) bowled Mayank Agarwal with the first delivery of the match and Virat Kohli followed for 12 in the fifth over, caught behind off medium pacer Kieron Pollard (2-25) to leave Bangalore on 19-2.

Tillakaratne Dilshan (59no) and AB de Villiers (38) at least ensured their side had something to defend with a third-wicket stand of 91 off 74 balls and Saurabh Tiwary applied a late flourish with three fours in his 16 not out.

The Indians have won their opening two games in this year's competition, while the Royal Challengers have a win and a loss.
