Sale linked to a move for highly-rated Scottish forward

Highly-rated Scottish forward Fraser McKenzie could be set to follow Richie Vernon to Sale. The 23-year-old has reportedly rejected the offer of a new contract at Edinburgh in favour of moving south of the border - with the Sharks poised to pounce. McKenzie, who is comfortable playing across the back five, had been ear-marked as one for the future for Scotland. And McKenzie, who captained Scotland Under-19s and gone on to play for the A team, looks to fit the bill of the type of players Sale executive Steve Diamond is trying to recruit. Diamond has made no secret of his desire to build his side around the pack - with the recruitment of Vernon, Tony Buckley, Mark Easter, Kearnan Myall, Joe Ward and James Collins for next season. And having seen a deal to bring in Kris Chesney from Toulon fall through, Diamond looks to have turned his attention to McKenzie, who weighs in at 18st and stands 6ft 6in. The loss of McKenzie would be the latest blow to the SRU's bid to retain its leading players, with Vernon having already announced his decision to leave and Scott MacLeod having turned down a deal with Edinburgh to move to Japan. Vernon will make the move to the Sharks in the summer from Glasgow Warriors - with the Scotland No.8 having agreed a two-year deal.
