James Tredwell admits England need a few days to "get back to normality" and regroup after their rollercoaster Group B campaign.

England kept their World Cup hopes alive with an 18-run victory over West Indies on Thursday, their latest in a string of dramatic contests at the tournament.

A place in the quarter-finals has still not yet been confirmed, but both the Windies and Bangladesh would have to spring surprises in their final group matches for England to be eliminated.

And off-spinner Tredwell, who took 4-48 and was named man of the match in Chennai, says the squad need a cooling off period after the thrilling win.

"We have done what we needed to do in that last game and I guess we need a couple of days to get back to normality mentally, get a couple of practice sessions in and see where we go from there," Tredwell said.

"It's must win now. Three games and the World Cup could be ours."

Tredwell was restricted to the role of drinks carrier during the Ashes tour of Australia and was unable to break into the England World Cup side until the match against West Indies.

"I am delighted. It is difficult sitting on the sidelines and I haven't played that much cricket over the winter," the Kent bowler told Sky Sports News.

"You keep yourself ticking over in the nets but it's not the same and so to get the chance and put in a performance, I am obviously delighted."

Tredwell says he would prefer not to have to go through many more nerve-shredding finishes, but thinks the tight contests will prepare England well for the latter stages of the tournament.

"It must be entertaining to watch at home," he said.

"I hope we don't have too many games like that over the next two weeks, but a couple of close ones might stand us in good stead for what's to come.

"We need to play better, first and foremost. But if those situations do come up again, we know what to do."
