England lock Tom Palmer says he has not yet decided whether he will leave French club Stade Francais at the end of his contract.

The 31-year-old has established himself as a first-choice option in the England second row, impressing during the autumn and again in the RBS Six Nations opener against Wales.

But his long-term future in the side is still in doubt after the Rugby Football Union announced their intention to stop selecting players who are based overseas.

Palmer's contract with Stade expires in the summer of 2012, but he is still not sure whether he will seek a move to the Aviva Premiership to satisfy the new rule.

"This time next year I'm going to have to make a big decision about what I'm doing and where my career is going to go," he told Sky Sports News HD.

"I'm not really thinking about that too much, there's a lot going on at the moment. And also with the World Cup coming up - that's where my focus is at the moment.

"Then this time next year I'll have to decide what's right for me and my wife."

England forwards coach John Wells called Palmer a "complete forward" after his performance during the 26-19 victory at the Millennium Stadium.

And Palmer admitted he was surprised with the comments from the former Leicester flanker, who is usually much more reserved with his praise.

He added: "That's probably the first nice thing Wells has ever said about me so I'm very pleased with that, I must have done something well.

"He's normally very good at seeing the negative. You'll have a review and he'll say, 'You played really well, but...' and he'll just show all the stuff you need to work on.

"And that's what he's got to do because you can't pat yourself on the back too much. You've always got to try and get better."
