Paceman Chris Tremlett will join the England World Cup squad as a travelling reserve to cover for possible injuries in the bowling attack.

Several of England's bowlers, including Tremlett, were struck down with injuries during the lengthy Test and one-day tour of Australia.

The right-arm seamer has now fully recovered from his side strain, though, and will be ready to step in should there be any more injury trouble among his fellow bowlers.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "Whilst the injured bowlers in the 15-man squad are all progressing well, the selectors have decided it would be prudent to have an additional player on hand who is acclimatised in case we need to apply to the Event Technical Committee for a replacement due to injury."

Injuries

England were dealt several injury blows in Australia, with Yorkshire bowlers Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad among those forced to depart the seven-match one-day international series early.

Tremlett would be a like-for-like replacement should either of those two or Stuart Broad, who suffered an abdominal injury during the Ashes series, not recover in time.

Spinner Graeme Swann also has a back problem while batsman Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of the tournament with a broken finger, but coach Andy Flower insists there is no injury crisis.

"We've got good news on most of our other players. The guys that came back early are progressing well," he said.

Tremlett took an impressive 17 wickets at an average of 23.35 during the Test series Down Under before adding six more in four one-dayers.
