Sharks centre to act as cover

South Africa have called up Adrian Jacobs as precautionary cover for Jean de Villiers and Juan de Jongh ahead of their schedule of autumn internationals. The Sharks centre has been added to the Springboks squad after de Villiers and de Jongh respectively suffered groin and ankle injuries in Saturday's Currie Cup final. Jacobs, who has 30 caps, was in the preliminary 39-man squad named two weeks ago, but failed to make the final list that was named on Saturday. South Africa coach Peter de Villiers is expected to make a decision on the participation of both injured players after they are assessed further on Sunday. De Villiers said: "We will monitor Juan and Jean's progress in the next couple of days. "We have had a number of injuries among our senior centres so we decided it was essential to have some experienced cover on hand and in the group just in case." Scrum-half Ricky Januarie has already withdrawn from the 30-man squad, after national team doctor Craig Roberts examined a knee injury following the final and deemed it too serious for him to travel. No replacement has yet been named.
