The highly-rated left-hander was one of the revelations of the 2010 campaign, scoring over 2,500 runs in all competitions.

He became the first man to pass 600 runs in a domestic Twenty20 season and his exploits at the top of the order helped inspire the Royals to the FPt20 title on home soil.

Hampshire cricket manager Giles White, who has also secured captain Dominic Cork and England batsman Michael Carberry on new deals since the end of the season, said: "Jimmy has been such a big part of the team's success in 2010, so I couldn't be happier that he has pledged his long-term future to Hampshire."

Adams, 29, is due to represent Auckland Aces in New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 competition before linking up with England's performance squad in Australia next month.

Speaking on his new deal, which will keep him at Hampshire until 2013, he said: "Hampshire is my home so I'm very happy to be signing a new deal at The Rose Bowl.

"I'm looking forward to a great winter and plenty more successful seasons at Hampshire.

"Auckland, too, will be a great challenge, but also an excellent opportunity for me to improve my skills."
