Hook: Wanted by Perpignan
Perpignan are in "advanced" talks with Wales international James Hook over a move across the Channel.
The Top 14 outfit have turned their attentions to the 25-year-old fly-half after they admitted defeat in their attempts to bring New Zealander Dan Carter back to the Stade Aime Giral.
The Ospreys had thwarted Perpignan's bid to sign Hook in 2009, however the Lions tourist is out of contract at the end of the season.
And Perpignan are now believed to be willing to offer Hook a three-year deal worth just over €1m, as well as guarantees that he will be selected in his preferred position of fly-half rather than centre.
Perpignan president Paul Goze told L'independent: ""It looks like Carter will be kept by the New Zealand Rugby Union until the end of the 2011-12 season.
"Nothing has been signed with Hook or any other player and no one is allowed to sign a pre-contract until February 1, but the talks with Hook are at a very advanced stage."
