New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been fined and also issued an apology after admitting to drunken behaviour during an indoor cricket competition.
The 26-year-old was charged with serious misconduct after his behaviour drew complaints from guests at a hotel where he was staying during the competition. New Zealand Cricket would not say when or where the incident occurred.
In a statement sent by Ryder to New Zealand Cricket, he wrote: "I accept that being intoxicated and rowdy during the night put me in a position where I put New Zealand Cricket and my own reputation at risk and I accept this is not tolerable.
"The potential consequences of this event have distressed me over the last few weeks.
"I have apologised to the hotel for my behaviour and I have put a lot of time into working out a plan to prevent me being in this position again.
"I am committed to making the right changes in my life as I really want a long career as a professional cricket player.
"I've had enough of getting into this sort of trouble and bringing attention to myself.
"I know the changes I am making do not dismiss the misconduct issue, however I am fully committed to being a Blackcap and I am committed to doing what is necessary to be the best I can be.
"I am grateful to NZC for sticking by me and I want to thank them by performing for the Blackcaps for many years to come."
Problems
Ryder's previous disciplinary trouble is well documented and he has admitted having alcohol problems in the past.
In February 2008, he suffered serious cuts to his hand after breaking a window to gain entry to a hotel toilet.
The following year he missed a team meeting and was unable to train after what was described as "a late-night drinking session," during a home one-day series against the West Indies.
He was dropped from the New Zealand team for the fourth match of that series.
At the Champions Trophy in South Africa later the same year Ryder abused team manager Dave Currie when he was reprimanded for hitting a chair after his dismissal against Sri Lanka.
He was again sanctioned for misconduct, though the penalty was not revealed.
New Zealand Cricket general manager Geoff Allott said: "Jesse, to his credit, brought the incident to the attention of New Zealand Cricket and has admitted his role in it.
"NZC is extremely disappointed in this breach of trust and protocol by Jesse and view the matter very seriously.
"We have seen some positive progress from Jesse in recent times, which make this incident even more disappointing.
"Jesse has been fined in line with our serious misconduct provisions and clearly understands we will not tolerate a repetition of this type of behaviour."
Ryder was ruled out of the current tour to Sri Lanka with an elbow injury but is expected to be available for selection for the tour to Bangladesh in September.
