Murtagh: set tone with early wickets

Middlesex Panthers revived their Friends Provident t20 campaign with a five-wicket win over Sussex Sharks.

The Sharks collapsed to 60-6, including three wickets for Tim Murtagh (3-24) in the third over, after opting to bat first at Hove.

Ollie Rayner hit 41 not out off 29 balls from number seven to at least get the home side up to a final total of 140-9.

But solid contributions from the Panthers' top three - David Warner (28), Scott Newman (30) and Owais Shah (34) - set the platform for a successful run chase.

The Sharks did well to extend the match into the final over but Middlesex completed the win with four balls to spare, skipper Neil Dexter finishing unbeaten on 20.

Middlesex are now just two points outside of the quarter-final qualification spots in the South Group, which Sussex still lead by six points despite their defeat.
