Ireland back ruled out of tour with groin injury

Keith Earls will miss out on Ireland's tour to New Zealand and Australia with a groin injury. The Munster back has been struggling with the nagging problem and was ruled out of the tour following a training camp in Limerick. Connacht player Gavin Duffy has been called into Declan Kidney's squad as a replacement. Earls is the fourth player to leave the squad through injury after Paul O'Connell, Rory Best and Kevin McLaughlin were all withdrawn. Regular starters Stephen Ferris, Denis Leamy and Luke Fitzgerald were all ruled out with injury before the 33-man squad was announced. "Earls has been suffering from a persistent groin injury," the Irish Rugby Football Union stated. "Following his participation in the training camp in Limerick this week, he has been ruled out of the tour." The 22-year-old has mainly featured on the wing for Ireland but is also comfortable at full-back and outside centre.
