Veteran to take over from Steve Smith in FPt20

Sri Lanka veteran Sanath Jayasuriya will compete for Worcestershire in the upcoming Friends Provident Twenty20 competition. The 40-year-old has competed in 30 Twenty20 contests for his country, in addition to 110 Tests and 444 one-day internationals. Jayasuriya will replace Steve Smith after five matches of the tournament, with the Australian joining his nation's limited-overs squad for the summer tour of England. Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes thinks that the batsman and left-arm spinner will be a valuable source of experience for the Royals. "Sanath will bring a wealth of experience to the squad during a critical part of the forthcoming campaign," Rhodes said. "He has gained this experience from playing all around the world including the IPL and the recent World Twenty20 in the West Indies. "His left-arm spin and powerful batting can only benefit our efforts in this competition and there is no doubt he is still one of the most exciting cricketers in world cricket. "He is a proven match winner and I have no doubt he will prove to be a great entertainer for our supporters."
