Harris: Five for 62

A five-wicket haul from James Harris helped Glamorgan beat Northamptonshire by an innings and four runs in Cardiff.

It took the Welsh county only 22.5 overs of the final day to seal back-to-back wins in the LV County Championship for the first time in six years.

Resuming the morning session on 126 for four, Northamptonshire still needed a further 71 to avoid an innings defeat at the Swalec Stadium.

However their survival hopes were dealt a serious blow when David Harrison bowled David Sales for 27 during the sixth over of the day.

The breakthrough opened the door for Glamorgan, with Jim Allenby removing nightwatchman David Lucas for 32 on his way to figures of three for 12 from 10 overs, five of which were maidens.

It was left to Harris (five for 62), who had earlier trapped Andrew Hall leg before for a single, to wrap up proceedings 20 minutes before lunch, the seamer getting Jack Brooks caught behind as the visitors were all out for 193.

Day Three

Glamorgan have the opportunity to press for victory over Northamptonshire on the final day in Cardiff after James Harris struck three times on the third evening.

Seamer Harris (3-43) removed Niall O'Brien (33), Mal Loye (9) and Robert White (14) and left-arm spinner Dean Cosker (1-3) chipped in with the scalp of Stephen Peters (48) as Northants closed on 126-4 in their second innings, still 71 behind.

Jim Allenby had earlier hit 72 as Glamorgan extended their first innings from 348-5 to 450 all out in the third over after lunch.

Northamptonshire all-rounder Andrew Hall finished with 4-93.

Day two

A battling century from Jamie Dalrymple has seen Glamorgan assume complete control in their Division Two clash with Northamptonshire.

The Glamorgan skipper fell late on day two for 105 as his side reached stumps on 348-5 - a first-innings lead of 95.

Dalrymple built on the fine start made by openers Gareth Rees (64) and Mark Cosgrove (85) on a batsman-friendly SWALEC Stadium pitch.

The contrasting openers put on 147 for the first wicket before powerful Australian Cosgrove perished to Lee Daggett 15 runs short of his century.

Northants all-rounder Andrew Hall ended Rees' 142-ball stay in the afternoon session, however captain Dalrymple picked up the mantle magnificently.

The right-hander cracked 13 fours and reached three figures in 197 minutes off 174 balls. He fell in what turned out to be the last over of the day though, opposite number Nicky Boje claiming the scalp.

Day one

Pace duo James Harris and Huw Waters took three wickets apiece as Glamorgan bowled out Northamptonshire for 253 on the opening day of their Division Two fixture.

Harris continued his impressive start to the season with figures of 3-77 while Waters finished with 3-55 from 25 overs bowled on day one.

For Northamptonshire, Stephen Peters (72) and Andrew Hall (53) both struck half centuries as the visitors were dismissed in the penultimate over of the day.

Ireland batsman Niall O'Brien also chipped in with 49 while David Sales posted 25 batting at number four.

Glamorgan all-rounder James Allenby impressed yet again for the Welsh club with economical figures of 2-26 from 20 overs bowled.
