Highly-rated second row James Cannon has signed a two-year deal to join Wasps from Northampton.

The 21-year-old, who was part of England Under-20s' Grand Slam winning side in 2008, has only made eight first-team appearances for Saints but he has been earmarked as one of the best up-and-coming players in the Premiership.

And Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks believes Cannon will be a natural replacement at Adams Park for Leicester-bound George Skivington.

Hanks said: "We are delighted that James will join us next season. He is a player with great promise and one that we feel will thrive in the set up at the club.

"He has picked up senior game time with Saints and shown his potential and we look forward to welcoming him in the summer."

Cannon will team up with former England U20s team-mates Joe Simpson, Hugo Ellis and Mark Odejobi at Wasps.
