Leicester insist links to Scarlets fly-half Jones are 'unfounded'

Leicester have strongly denied speculation linking them with a move for Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones. Reports have claimed the Guinness Premiership leaders are interested in signing the 32-year-old Wales international. But Leicester head of rugby operations Simon Cohen has strongly dismissed such speculation, saying having discussions with a player already contracted to another club is not the way the Tigers 'do business'.

Totally unfounded

He said: "Stories linking Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones with Leicester Tigers are totally unfounded. "We are very happy with the fly-half options available in the Tigers squad and we are not looking to recruit another one. "As far as we are aware, the player is under contract at the Scarlets and it would have been both disrespectful and not the way we do business to have had any discussions with him in any event. "Unfounded speculation of this type is not helpful to either club or the player concerned."
