"It is all about who performs best on the day. I do not think it would be the biggest upset in the world if we were to win."
Nicky Robinson Quotes of the week

The Cherry and Whites beat off the challenge of Robinson's former club Cardiff Blues 29-18 last time to make the showpiece at Sixways.

Robinson told that last week's game against the Blues - whom they had lost to on their previous four outings, including last year's final - was a big hurdle to cross for the club.

"A lot of hard work was put into last week's win and this week is going to be even tougher than that," said Robinson, who kicked a penalty and three conversions in the victory.

"It is going to be really tough. Northampton are playing really well at the moment, they have got some players who are on top of their game."

Gloucester lost 27-14 to the Saints in the early part of the season when their defence was leaking too many tries.

But Bryan Redpath's side have enjoyed a recent resurgence, with Robinson saying defence has been a focus for the squad for the last couple of months.

"We struggled before Christmas, we were conceding way too may tries," he acknowledged, adding the side only conceded one try against Cardiff, giving them the platform to go on and win the game.

He was targeting a repeat performance of a tight defensive display against the Saints.

"We know how good Northampton are in attack, defence is obviously going to be crucial for us," he said.

"(Like Cardiff) Northampton have got a big back row as well and we have got to stop them."

He also believed it would be crucial not to give the Saints a chance to build a big advantage in the game.

"We can not give teams like Northampton too much of a lead because they are too good to let us back in," he said.

While Sky Bet have the Saints as 4/11 on favourites to win and the Cherry and Whites as 2/1 outsiders, Robinson believed anything could happen with the pressure on in the final, although they would need to be on top of their game in all areas to prevail.

"It is all about who performs best on the day," he said.

"I do not think it would be the biggest upset in the world if we were to win.

"We are going in full of confidence, we have played some really good rugby since the turn of the year," he said, adding they have beaten some top teams.

"We are going in with no illusions that Northampton are another top team and for us to beat them we have got to play well.

"We know we can and we have got the ability to beat them."

Robinson also called on the club's supporters to get fully behind their team at Sixways.

"Hopefully they will come down on Sunday and really get behind us as they did in Cardiff and hopefully enjoy the day," he added.

"Hopefully, it will be a repeat of last week when we really did give them something to cheer about."

Nicky Robinson was speaking ahead of the LV= Cup Final when Gloucester take on Northampton Saints at Worcester's Sixways Stadium on Sunday March 21 at 3.30pm. The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 3. Tickets are available from
