Scotland flanker sidelined for six months with hip injury

Scotland forward Ally Hogg has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will therefore miss the 2010 RBS Six Nations tournament. The Edinburgh flanker was told that he needed surgery on an injured hip after his side's 16-9 Heineken Cup defeat against Bath at The Rec. The 26-year-old, who made his Scotland debut against Wales in the 2004 Six Nations tournament, will now undergo surgery as soon as possible. Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat confirmed that the 48 time-capped international will not be available for Scotland in February. "Ally has suffered a tear in a muscle in his hip and requires an operation," said Moffat. "It means he will be out of action for six months so will not be available for selection for the Six Nations." Although former Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson is in charge of the Scottish national team, Hogg did not feature in the autumn internationals against Australia, Fiji and Argentina.
