Stevens and Joseph commit to Spitfires

Kent have extended the contracts of Darren Stevens and Robbie Joseph to keep them at the County Ground for the next two seasons. All-rounder Stevens moved to Kent from Leicestershire in 2005 and has 155 first-class appearances to his name as well as 202 List A caps. The 33-year-old helped the Spitfires to Twenty20 Cup glory in 2007, hitting an unbeaten 30 to steer Kent home against Gloucestershire at Edgbaston. Antiguan-born Joseph has been around the fringes of the England team over the last 12 months after earns call-ups for the Lions and the Performance Programme. Having joined Kent in April 2004, Joseph struggled to make an impact early on at Canterbury, however he has since become a key play for the Spitfires. And team director Paul Farbrace is delighted that the duo have agreed to stay and help form the core of a strong squad. He said: "Both are quality players and, with Rob Key, Martin van Jaarsveld and Geraint Jones recently extending their deals, the nucleus of the team is now taking shape."
