Newly-appointed Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick has been named the most valuable player for 2009 by the Professional Cricketers' Association.
The former England opening batsman scored 2,934 runs across all competitions to earn a points total of 632 in the PCA's ratings system, 50 more than his nearest challenger Ian Blackwell.
Durham all-rounder Blackwell, a former team-mate of Trescothick at Somerset, enjoyed a fine season with his new county, scoring 1,314 runs and taking 69 wickets.
Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter was third in the table, which awards points for a number of factors including batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, games played and games won.
Trescothick was comfortably the top run-scorer, 587 ahead of Jonathan Trott of Warwickshire and England, while Essex's Danish Kaneria was highest wicket-taker with 108.
