England have handed a one-day international debut to Kent opener Joe Denly for their 50-over encounter with Ireland in Belfast.

The 23-year-old comes into the side in place of captain Andrew Strauss and will open the batting with Ravi Bopara at Stormont.

Ashes heroes Stuart Broad and James Anderson are other notable absentees from England's starting XI - Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid and Jonathan Trott making their ODI debuts as a result.

Dublin-born Eoin Morgan has been named 12th man against his former team-mates.

For Ireland, former captain Trent Johnston will make his 100th appearance, however opening bowler Boyd Rankin has failed a fitness test.

England stand-in captain Paul Collingwood won the toss and elected to bat first.
