England paceman shrugs off comments in controversial dossier

James Anderson says he is "not bothered" by the criticism in former Australia batsman Justin Langer's leaked dossier. Langer, who retired from international cricket at the start of 2007, wrote an email to Australia coach Tim Nielsen identifying potential weaknesses in the England side ahead of the Ashes series. The contents, which were later leaked to The Sunday Telegraph, included criticism of Anderson as "a bit of a pussy if he is worn down" as well as saying the team can be "flat" and "shallow". However, the Lancashire pace bowler insists he is not worried by the remarks and says they will have no bearing on the way he performs in the decisive fifth Test at The Oval. "I dare say people will wonder whether Langer's comments will spur me on a bit more, but I can say without any hesitation that I don't need anything more to gee me up for the last Test," Anderson told The Daily Telegraph. "I gather his remarks about me were along the lines that my body language can be detrimental to the team, if the Aussies got on top of me, but the bottom line is that he doesn't even know me as a person and he last played Test cricket against me more than two-and-a-half years ago. "A lot has happened to me since the last Ashes series and I'm now a completely different cricketer to the one he faced in Australia. "The only comments about me as a person and as a cricketer that I take to heart are those that come from people who know me, and I'm not bothered by what Langer supposedly had to say."

Shattered

Langer has said he was "shattered and really upset" that the comments were leaked and that he had no intention of causing offence to the likes of Anderson. "It was private correspondence and, if I had known it would find its way into the public domain, I would have put things differently," he said. "I definitely wouldn't have used a word like 'pussy'."
