Hull slipped to a 24-12 defeat against Warrington on Saturday, missing the chance to leapfrog seventh-placed rivals at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

After going into half-time with the points divided evenly at six apiece Warrington ran in three tries within 10 minutes of the restart to take the game away from Hull.

Wolves opted to further delay the anticipated debut of former Great Britain winger Brian Carney who returned to rugby league recently from Munster.

They were also were missing Lee Briers, Mickey Higham and Paul Rauhihi while Hull were without Chris Thorman.

It was deadlock for much of the first period until a blunder by Ben Westwood saw Jodie Broughton, on loan from Leeds, intercept his stray pass and race 80 metres to the line.

Breathtaking

Danny Tickle converted but a breathtaking try by Chris Riley redressed the balance on the stroke of half time.

Riley took the honours after latching on to smart inside pass from Richie Mathers following his 70-metre sprint up the pitch while Chris Hicks slotted the touchline conversion.

Early in the second half the Wolves got their noses in front for the first time courtesy of Michael Monaghan, who put Paul Wood in for the score.

They increased their advantage to 18-6 after 52 minutes, with Matt King shrugging off Horne and Hicks adding another difficult conversion.

Monaghan and Vinnie Anderson combinined to prolong Hull's misery and feed Ben Harrison for their third try and extend the lead to 24-6

Hull pulled points back on the hour mark, with Shaun Berrigan putting Kirk Yeaman over, but they never looked like preventing Wolves make it five wins from their last six league matches.
