Former England star out for season as latest injury blow takes hold
Former England paceman Simon Jones has been ruled out for the rest of the season as the curse of his knee injury struck again.
The 2005 Ashes hero has barely played since that glorious summer and will not be in action again until next season after scans revealed he needs "longer
period" to recover from the long-standing problem.
A statement from Worcestershire - who insist there has been "no decision" yet about Jones' future with the county - read:
"Simon Jones will not play cricket this season.
"Our medical team have advised us that recent scans have revealed, despite the successful regeneration of cartilage in Simon's left knee, the underlying bone will require a longer period for complete recovery.
"During this time Simon will undertake further rehabilitation in his efforts to regain full fitness."
Pears director of cricket Steve Rhodes added: "This is very disappointing news for both the club and for Simon himself.
"He has gone through so much work over the last year that we were all really
hoping he would come through this.
"There will inevitably be speculation about Simon's future with the club but I
must stress that no decision has been made at this stage."
Jones' contract with the Pears expires at the end of the season and now he will be sweating on whether he can earn a new deal.
