Newcastle Falcons have announced the signing of London Irish forward James Hudson on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old lock has scored three tries in 19 starts for the Exiles this season, Hudson having also played in the Guinness Premiership for Bath and represented England Saxons.

Falcons director of rugby, Steve Bates, said: "James is a proven performer at Guinness Premiership level and will add a huge amount to our team.

"His line-out skills are renowned right throughout the league, he is a class operator who knows what it is all about and he will be a quality addition to our squad."
