Star returning to the Premiership as he seeks to reignite England career

Sale Sharks have confirmed the signing of England World Cup winner Ben Cohen from Brive. The former Northampton winger will move to Edgeley Park on a two-year deal from the French club having spent the last two years across the Channel. The 30-year-old is set to link up again with his former international colleague Jason Robinson when he returns to the Guinness Premiership as he bids to resurrect his England career. "I am looking forward to joining Sale Sharks in the summer and getting stuck into Premiership rugby again," Cohen said. "I am proud to be joining a squad with a great pedigree and with ambitions to win titles and trophies. "I am confident Sale have the players, coaches, management and support that will help me stake a claim to an international return next season."

Coup

Cohen made his last Test appearance against South Africa at Twickenham in 2006. He has won 57 caps and scored 31 tries - only Rory Underwood has crossed for more for England. He joins a new-look Sale side headed by rugby director Kingsley Jones alongside coach Robinson, and the former Premiership champions clearly want their title back. "Signing Ben is a real coup for the club," Jones said. "I have been chasing his signature for weeks, and I am delighted to announce that he has now put pen to paper. He is still young enough to play for England again." Cohen's move bucks a recent trend that has seen England internationals head across to France to ply their trade. Wasps' trio of James Haskell, Tom Palmer and Riki Flutey have all signed deals to move to Top 14 clubs. However, Sale chief executive James Jennings believes the winger's return is a big positive - not just for his club but also for the English game. "Ben signing for us is great news, not only for us but for English rugby too," Jennings added. "Here is a player who is turning his back on playing in France to return to England and hopefully play for his country again."
