An abdominal injury has ruled Sachin Tendulkar out of India's fourth one-day international against New Zealand in Hamilton on Wednesday.

The batsman suffered the injury after he was hit in the stomach by an Iain O'Brien delivery during the second ODI last Friday in Wellington.

Tendulkar was suffering discomfort when he played in the third match in Christchurch two days later but, despite being forced to retire hurt, he made 163 as India secured a 58-run victory.

India team officials said a scan had shown swelling and bruising and added they were monitoring the situation ahead of the final match in Auckland on Saturday.

The tourists lead the five-match series 2-0 having also won the first game in Napier by 53 runs.

The second match was abandoned because of rain.
