Caddick: Disgusted

Andrew Caddick has blasted the England selectors after their controversial choice of Darren Pattinson at Headingley - a move the Somerset man told Sky Sports News was 'disgusting'.

Pattinson was a controversial 'horses for courses' selection by England, with coach Peter Moores hoping his use of swing would suit at Headingley.

However, the Nottinghamshire man had only played 11 first-class matches before making his England debut and his selection really got tongues wagging, especially after South Africa's convincing victory.

The likes of Ashes heroes Simon Jones, Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard had all been in the wickets at county level, but were overlooked by the selectors.

Continuing 12th man Chris Tremlett was also left out, and Caddick says he was disgusted that the big names and the up-and-coming youngsters were overlooked in favour of Pattinson.

"Its quite astonishing that these things are happening these days and its quite a kick in the guts. It doesn't say much about the system," Caddick told Sky Sports News.

"I think it's actually disgusting but it just sums up the lack of commitment by the England selectors for the cause.

"I think he (Pattinson) could end up being another one-Test wonder which is a shame for him as it's not going to do his confidence any good. It's just a shambles really that things like this are happening at this level."

The explanation of Moores that Pattinson's style was well suited to the ground does not wash with Caddick - not with renowned swinger Hoggard ready to come in and bowl on his home Headingley wicket.

"Why wasn't Matthew Hoggard picked? It beggars belief really.

"I hope someone would have rung him and explained the situation but knowing the way the situation works I don't think they would of and that's the sad situation.

"There's no communication as far as England concerned."
