Mitchell Johnson believes he is still some way from cementing his place in Australia's Test side.

"Like I've said, you've Taity there, other guys in Australian cricket, other bowlers that are doing really well at the moment so anyone can really come up there and grab your spot."
Mitchell Johnson Quotes of the week

The Queensland left-arm seamer has been impressive since making his debut against Sri Lanka in November.

Johnson has 11 wickets in three Tests at an average of 26.09 but knows that there is stiff competition for the fast bowling spots.

Shaun Tait, who was 12th man during the Boxing Day Test victory over India, is pushing hard for a place in the starting XI.

"I think I've got to keep doing what I'm doing and just try and keep performing and getting wickets," said Johnson.

"Like I've said, you've Taity there, other guys in Australian cricket, other bowlers that are doing really well at the moment so anyone can really come up there and grab your spot.

"I've just got to focus on what I'm doing and not think about other guys too much."

Surprise

Tait was preferred to Johnson in the one-day team during the recent series against New Zealand, a decision that came as a surprise.

"It took me by surprise being dropped from the one-day team," Johnson added.

"I think Taity deserved his spot and did really well. There are a lot of bowlers out there that are at our heels.

"It was disappointing at the time and there was a little bit of concern there. I just tried to focus on getting things right in the nets before the Test and making sure I was ready."
