Steve Harmison could play in the first Test against Sri Lanka after his back injury was not as serious as first feared.

The Durham fast bowler suffered a back spasm in the warm-up game against the SLC Board President's XI, leaving him unable to bowl.

However, Harmison has been given the all clear to return to training - with a view to him playing in the first Test.

Harmison has had a troubled time since teaming up with England in Sri Lanka.

Having played two games for Highveld Lions in South Africa to prove his fitness, Harmison flew out to the sub-continitent but his first appearance was delayed.

A mix-up at the airport saw his bowling boots arrive late - and when they did turn up, Harmison struggled for line and rhythm.

England coach Peter Moores kept faith in Harmison, only for his to breakdown with a back spasm in the final warm-up game.
